History
Dark Rapidash (known as Reprincel in French) is the evolved form of Ponyta, a Fire-type Pokémon recognizable by its flaming mane. The "Dark" variant of Rapidash, card number 32/82 from the Team Rocket expansion, represents an altered version of this Pokémon, subjected to the influence or manipulation of the notorious criminal organization Team Rocket. These "Dark Pokémon" were often depicted with more aggressive abilities or menacing appearances, reflecting their condition under the organization's control.
The Team Rocket expansion, released in 2000, was the fifth main series of the Pokémon Trading Card Game and the first to introduce the concept of "Dark Pokémon." This set stood out for its antagonist-centric theme, offering collectors and players a fresh perspective on the Pokémon universe. It is particularly valued for introducing iconic Pokémon in a novel and darker form, marking a turning point in the TCG's history.
The artwork for this non-holographic card is by Kagemaru Himeno, an artist whose distinctive style has contributed to the aesthetic of numerous Pokémon TCG cards since the early expansions. For Dark Rapidash, Himeno captured the essence of the Fire-type Pokémon while imbuing it with a darker aura and an imposing stance, perfectly aligning with the expansion's theme. Card 32/82, being a 1st Edition, holds particular significance for collectors aiming to complete the early series of the TCG.
