History
The Switch card, numbered 95/102, is an iconic Trainer card from the original Base Set expansion of the Pokémon Trading Card Game. Representing a fundamental action in the game, it allowed players to swap their Active Pokémon with one of their Benched Pokémon. This strategic ability made it an indispensable staple in decks from the earliest days of the TCG.
The Base Set expansion, released in 1999, marked the beginning of the Pokémon TCG saga in the West. It introduced the first Pokémon, Energy, and Trainer cards, laying the foundations of the game as we know it. The Switch card, despite its Common rarity, is a historical piece of this foundational series, testifying to the ingenuity of the initial game mechanics.
The artwork, signed by Keiji Kinebuchi, is both simple and effective. It depicts a stylized Poké Ball with circular arrows, symbolizing movement and exchange. This clear and functional design is characteristic of many Trainer cards of the era, prioritizing the readability of the effect over complex aesthetics, while still maintaining an iconic touch.
