History
The Energy Removal card, number 92/102 from the iconic Base Set expansion, represents a strategic cornerstone from the early days of the Pokémon Trading Card Game. Part of the very first generation of cards, it was introduced with the Base Set in 1999 in the West and quickly became an essential component of competitive decks due to its ability to disrupt opposing strategies.
Its simple yet powerful effect allows players to discard an Energy card attached to one of the opponent's Pokémon, significantly slowing down their setup. The artwork, by Keiji Kinebuchi, is a classic example of the clean and functional style of early Pokémon cards, depicting a hand grasping an energy orb, perfectly symbolizing the act of "removal".
This card is even more significant in its "1st Edition" version, marking the initial print runs of this historic expansion. As a Common card, it was accessible, but its impact on the game was universally recognized, shaping the early metas of the Pokémon TCG and establishing an archetype of disruption cards that persists to this day.
