History
Koffing is a Poison-type Pokémon introduced in the first generation. Recognized by its spherical shape and the toxic gases it expels, it is often associated with polluted environments. Its evolution, Weezing, is also well-known among trainers, frequently appearing alongside Team Rocket in the anime series.
The Koffing 51/102 card is part of the iconic Base Set, the very first expansion of the Pokémon Trading Card Game. This set, launched in North America in 1999, laid the foundations for the TCG phenomenon and remains a cornerstone for any collector. The "1st Edition" version of this card is particularly sought after as it belongs to the initial print run, before the unlimited versions.
The artwork for this Koffing is by Mitsuhiro Arita, a legendary artist who helped define the aesthetic of early Pokémon cards. His distinctive style, with clear lines and attention to detail, captures Koffing in its element, floating above a cloud of gas, true to its Poison-type nature and its original design.
