History
Rhyhorn, the Spikes Pokémon, is a robust Ground/Rock-type Pokémon, recognizable by its stone-hard skin and powerful horn. In the Pokémon universe, it is known for its brute strength and its ability to charge through any obstacle. It is the pre-evolution of Rhydon and, later, Rhyperior, iconic Pokémon from the first generation.
The Rhyhorn 61/64 card is part of the Jungle expansion, the second major series of the Pokémon Trading Card Game, released in 1999 after the Base Set. Jungle introduced 48 new Generation I Pokémon, adding new game dynamics and expanding the collector's universe. This expansion is particularly valued for its "wild" atmosphere and captivating artworks.
Keiji Kinebuchi's illustration for this Rhyhorn card perfectly captures the Pokémon's essence. Rhyhorn is depicted in a rocky environment, ready for action, its angular body and determined posture emphasizing its robust nature. Kinebuchi's style is recognizable by its precision and ability to bring Pokémon to life in dynamic, natural scenes.
