History
Cubone is a Ground-type Pokémon from the first generation, famously known for wearing the skull of its deceased mother. This card, number 50/64 from the Jungle expansion, is an emblem of the nostalgia associated with the early years of the Pokémon TCG. The Jungle expansion, released after the Base Set, introduced the first wave of new Pokémon to collect, significantly broadening both the metagame and the card universe.
Miki Tanaka's artwork for Cubone 50/64 perfectly captures the melancholic essence of the Pokémon. Cubone is depicted in a desolate environment, with its skull on its head and bone in hand, ready for battle or defense. The artistic style of the era, simple yet expressive, highlights Cubone's characteristic sadness and solitude, making this card instantly recognizable and cherished by collectors.
As a "Common" card from the Jungle expansion, Cubone 50/64 was readily accessible, but its "1st Edition" version holds particular value. First Edition cards are identifiable by a small "Edition 1" logo on the left side of the illustration, just below the border. They represent the initial print runs and are therefore more sought after by purists and investors.
