History
Tentacool, the Jellyfish Pokémon, is an iconic Water and Poison-type creature, recognizable by its translucent body and multiple tentacles. It is often found in shallow waters and reefs, where it moves with agility, using its suction cups to cling to rocks or to attack. Its ability to absorb water allows it to inflate its body for defense or to intimidate opponents.
This Tentacool 56/62 card is part of the Fossil expansion, the third major expansion of the Pokémon Trading Card Game, released internationally in 1999. Fossil introduced 30 new Pokémon, including several aquatic creatures and Pokémon inspired by the prehistoric era, significantly enriching the Pokédex available to players after the Base and Jungle sets. The expansion continued to develop game strategies with new types and abilities.
The artwork for this card, by Kagemaru Himeno, captures Tentacool in its natural environment. It depicts the Pokémon gracefully floating underwater, its tentacles spread, conveying a sense of movement and fluidity. Kagemaru Himeno is a prolific and respected TCG artist whose style defined many iconic cards from the early generations, bringing life and dynamism to Pokémon illustrations, even for a common card like this one.
