History
The Trainer card "Gamer" (Joueur in French), card number 60/62 from the Fossil expansion, is a testament to the early gameplay mechanics of the Pokémon TCG. Introduced in the game's third expansion, Fossil, it offered players a unique strategic ability for its time: shuffling a Basic Pokémon from their hand back into their deck and drawing a new card. This recycling and drawing mechanic was valuable for optimizing one's hand and searching for Pokémon better suited to the situation.
The Fossil expansion, released in 1999, is famous for introducing prehistoric and legendary Pokémon, enriching the game's universe after the successes of the Base Set and Jungle expansions. Although "Gamer" is not a Pokémon, its inclusion illustrates the diversity of Trainer cards designed to complement combat strategies. The artwork by Keiji Kinebuchi depicts a young Trainer focused on their game, capturing the very essence of playing the TCG.
